Lawn Leveling

The core fix for bumpy, uneven ground.

The diagnosis

A bumpy lawn is almost never random. It is settling over old utility trenches, ruts from equipment that worked the ground when it was wet, frost heave working stones upward, or grading that was never finished properly. We start by reading the surface: where it holds water, where the mower scalps, where your ankle rolls. That map decides the fix, not a one-size spread of material.

Method & materials

Professional equipment and carefully selected materials improve the grade and smoothness of the lawn.

Shallow imperfections level with screened mason sand or a sand-heavy blend that stays put and lets turf grow through. Deeper faults need a soil component for root structure. The wrong call here is why DIY leveling fails: pure sand in deep fills stays soft, and heavy topsoil over living turf smothers it.

What to expect after

Expect the lawn to look worked for two to three weeks while grass grows up through the new surface. Water it like you would new seed. First mow comes when the turf stands back up: high blade, easy pace. The result should be a surface you can mow fast and stripe straight.

Common questions

How much does lawn leveling cost?
Pricing depends on the size of the lawn, the amount of material required, access, and the severity of the unevenness. Request a quote for an accurate estimate. It only takes a few minutes.
What is top dressing?
Top dressing is the application of a thin layer of material across the lawn to help smooth the surface and improve soil conditions.
Can you fix a severely bumpy lawn?
In many cases, yes. The best approach depends on the severity of the problem and may include leveling, grading, top dressing, or full lawn renovation.
