Overseeding
Density for thin, bare, and patchy areas.
The diagnosis
Thin turf is usually a symptom of compaction, shade, or low soil vitality, so seed thrown at a symptom mostly feeds birds. We overseed as part of a prepared pass: the surface is opened, contact is real, and the new grass has somewhere to root.
Method & materials
Often paired with aeration and top dressing so new seed actually establishes.
Seed is matched to Southern Maryland conditions: tall fescue blends that handle our summers, mixed for the light each area actually gets. Paired with aeration and a thin top-dress layer, germination rates change completely.
What to expect after
Water is the whole game for three weeks: light and frequent, then deeper and rarer. First mow at three inches once the new stand is rooted. Fall seedings establish before winter; spring seedings get a summer-watch note from us.
Common questions
- How much does lawn leveling cost?
- Pricing depends on the size of the lawn, the amount of material required, access, and the severity of the unevenness. Request a quote for an accurate estimate. It only takes a few minutes.
- What is top dressing?
- Top dressing is the application of a thin layer of material across the lawn to help smooth the surface and improve soil conditions.
- Can you fix a severely bumpy lawn?
- In many cases, yes. The best approach depends on the severity of the problem and may include leveling, grading, top dressing, or full lawn renovation.
